Why Study Karate? 

What is Karate?
Karate is the Okinawan or Japanese art of self-defense.  Karate being one of the most popular and widely known of the weaponless Martial Arts.  The word "Karate" means "empty hands" but elbows, knees and other parts of the body can also be used as weapons.

Why Study Karate?

Karate is a martial (military) art and can be practiced by almost anyone, regardless of age, gender, or physical size.  The training is an efficient method of getting and staying in sound physical condition.  Karate is at the same time a highly effective means of self defense.  The principles and techniques of Karate build character, coordination, and speed.  A person's motive for undertaking this sport is dependent upon his or her personal ambition, need and interest.

Principles for Karate Students:
  1. I will faithfully train to strengthen my mind and body.
  2. I am willing to endure rigorous training to achieve my goal.
  3. As my strength increases, I seek to cultivate a gentle wisdom.
  4. I will not use my skill outside the dojo except in the most extreme circumstances.
  5. At all times I will do my best to avoid inflicting injury upon any other person.
  6. I will not brag about my skill or use it maliciously.
  7. I will train with patience and with well-rounded and harmonious development in mind.
